Chair - Dr. Branislav Hock
Branislav Hock is a Associate Professor in Economic Crime at the University of Portsmouth. He is an author of Extraterritoriality and International Bribery: A Collective Action Perspective, Routledge 2020. Branislav has been involved in a broad range of research activities, many have been related to anti-corruption, transnational economic crime, and compliance. Branislav is the founding member of the European Compliance Center. He also worked for a law firm where he was advising on various compliance issues. Branislav worked as a researcher at the Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC), where he completed a PhD in anticorruption law.
Hélène Papper
“Disinformation as a silent/not so silent but deadly pandemic”
Hélène Papper is the Global Communications and Advocacy Director for the UN specialized agency and international financial institution, IFAD, the International Fund for Agricultural Development. She is a conflict and post-conflict strategist and leader with extensive experience in the field of diplomacy, advocacy, and communications. She has dedicated her life to giving a voice to the most vulnerable communities. Working for the United Nations she set up radio stations in order to support the process of peace and reconciliation in several countries where she trained journalists and established protected spaces for dialogue based on ethics and inclusiveness.
Dr. Pietro Maria Sabella
“Disinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic: The Italian case”
Pietro Maria Sabella is Adjunct Assistant Professor in Criminal Law at Luiss University, he holds a PhD in Law and Business, with a thesis on the individual and corporate criminal liability for tax crimes. He is a member of the European Research Center on Tax Crimes and of the International Association of Penal Law (AIDP). His research focuses on corporate criminal liability, tax and financial crimes, but also cyberterrorism and hate crimes. He is Lawyer in Rome.
Dr. Ammar Naji
“The Weaponization of Media Disinformation in the Yemen Crisis”
Ammar Naji is Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature and Arabic at Colorado College. He is also the advisor for the minor in Arabic, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. He teaches courses on the study of global and world literature in relation to social activism and media studies, diaspora and immigrant writing from the Middle East and North Africa and comparative race studies. Some of his published works include: “The Unspoken Agenda of Houthi Digital Poetry in Yemen’s Current War Crisis" in Arab Media & Society, and "Stateless Confederations: Revolutions of Islamic Consciousness in the Arab World" in Islamism and Cultural Expression in the Arab World (Routledge 2015).
Goran Georgiev
“Disinformation during wartime: Focus on the invasion of Ukraine”
Goran Georgiev is an analyst at CSD’s Economic and Security Programs. He focuses on studying the impact of the Kremlin’s disinformation narratives on public perceptions and policy-making in Bulgaria and the wider Central and Eastern European region. To this end, he conducts data collection and analysis of relevant online content using numerous media monitoring, audience analysis, and data visualization tools. He serves as a disinformation expert in several initiatives aimed at countering Russia’s disinformation operations, including the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Beacon Project.
Dr. Eliana Lauretta
“Misperception of financial risk and market misinformation”
Eliana Lauretta is Assistant Professor in Finance at the School of Economics, Finance and Accounting (EFA) at Coventry University. Her research interests lies in the field of Finance-Growth Nexus, Money, Credit and Financial System, Financial Innovation, Environmental Sustainability and Banking System, Financial Crisis, Financial (in)stability and Business Cycle dynamics, Macroeconomics, and Behavioural Finance/Economics. Currently, Eliana, is the Principal Investigator of the PRiFIN project: Perception of Risk in the Financial System: An Interdisciplinary Research on the Perception-Belief-Behaviour (PBB) nexus.
